Worth knowing
Worth knowing before you start SaaS marketing
Decide which motion you are selling before any ad goes live. A product-led company with a free trial or freemium plan needs traffic that signs up and activates on its own, so landing pages, onboarding email and in-app prompts carry the load. A sales-led company selling to mid-market or enterprise buyers needs demo requests from the right titles, and the campaign is measured on meetings that sales accepts, not on signups. Many companies run both, and the two paths need separate pages, budgets and reporting.
Long sales cycles and attribution
A mid-market deal can take a quarter or two from first visit to signature, with several people from the buying committee touching the site along the way. That means last-click reporting in GA4 will credit the wrong thing. Set up pipeline reporting in your CRM (HubSpot or Salesforce) so the team can follow a lead from MQL to SQL, to a booked demo and to closed-won, and judge each channel on the stage it was built to move, not on the whole deal.
Retention is a marketing job too
Churn undoes acquisition quietly. Product analytics (Mixpanel, Amplitude or the events you already send) show where trials stall and which accounts stop logging in, and those signals feed lifecycle email, in-app messaging and the expansion plays your customer success team runs. Ask the team to report on activation and retention next to signups from the first month, because a channel that brings users who never activate is a cost, not a win.
Reviews, webinars and partners
Buyers check G2 and Capterra before they book a demo, and those profiles fill with reviews only when you ask your active users at the right moment, such as after a completed onboarding or a renewal. Webinars and partner marketing with the tools you integrate with reach accounts that search ads cannot, and a co-marketing event with an integration partner usually reaches further than a solo one. The team also agrees with sales on what a qualified lead is, in writing, before the first campaign report.
